Not every wasp nest is the same, and knowing which one you have tells you how careful to be. Around Boise the two you will see most are paper wasps and yellowjackets.
Paper wasps
Paper wasps build open, umbrella-shaped nests you can see the cells of, usually under eaves, deck railings and play sets. They are less aggressive unless the nest is disturbed.
Yellowjackets
Yellowjackets usually build hidden nests in the ground, in wall voids or inside sheds. You often notice them going in and out of one small hole. They defend the nest aggressively and can sting repeatedly, which is why late-summer yellowjacket nests cause most stings.
What to do
Keep kids and pets away and do not block the entrance, since that can push wasps into the house. For nests near doors, play areas or inside walls, our wasp and hornet removal team can usually come the same day.
